DAF purchased the water-cooled 4-cylinder in-line engine for the Daf 55 and Daf 66 from the French car group Renault. It is a water-cooled 4-cylinder in-line engine known as Renault Cléon-Fonte, Sierra or C-type. This engine had a long breath: produced from 1962 to 2004, an impressive career of 42 years! Volvo also obtained this engine for the Volvo 66 and 340 series (343, 345, 340) from Renault. You will also find the Cléon-Fonte in 'own house' in the Alpine A110, Renault 4, R5, R6, R7, R8/R10, R9/R11, R12, R15, R18, R19, R21, Estafette, Traffic 1, Express , Floride/Caravelle, Fuego, Twingo, Clio 1, and the Dacia 1300/1310.
